Three former Huskers were crowned world champions Sunday night, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. Nebraska and LSU were the only two schools in the country with three former players who were on the winning side of Super Bowl LV.
Lavonte David and Ndamukong Suh and Khalil Davis were all members of a Buccaneers defense that kept Kansas City out of the end zone. David started at inside linebacker and was second on the team with six tackles against the Chiefs. He also tied for the team lead with two passes defended. Ndamukong Suh started on the defensive line and was credited with two tackles, including a game-high 1.5 sacks. Davis was not active for Super Bowl LV but he played in two games in his rookie season.
The Super Bowl title was the first career championship for David, Davis and Suh. The trio increases Nebraska's total to 31 former Huskers who have been Super Bowl champions. A former Husker has been a member of the winning team in 10 of the last 12 Super Bowls.
