Update: 7:30 a.m. - The Nebraska rifle team's match against Akron scheduled for Saturday has been canceled because of weather.
Lincoln – The Nebraska rifle team returns to the range on Saturday morning, as the sixth-ranked Huskers will host No. 12 Akron in a virtual match. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. central and fans can follow all of the action live online at results.megalink.no.
In this format, both teams will shoot from their respective home facilities with the total results determining a winner. Saturday's match is one of two virtual matches for the Huskers this month, as the Great American Rifle Conference will hold its championship in the same format.
For NU Rifle Coach Rachel Martin, Saturday's match will give the team an opportunity to see what adjustments it has made since the 4,694-4,676 win over NC State on Jan. 24. In that match, the Huskers earned four of the top six spots on smallbore as well as two of the top three places in air rifle en route to their third straight mark above 4,690.
"This virtual competition is a good opportunity for our athletes to test out some of the changes they have been making in practice before we go up against Army," Martin said.
The Huskers, who are 4-2 on the season, have been led by senior Emily Cheramie, who earned top-two finishes on both events in the win over NC State.
Following Saturday's match, the Huskers will compete over the next four weekends, including a match at Army, the NCAA qualifier at Murray State and the GARC championship.
