Former Husker MJ Knighten Named San Diego Head Coach

San Diego, Calif. - Forrmer Husker All-American MJ Knighten was named the head coach of the University of San Diego softball team, announced by the school on Friday.

Knighten spent 2019-20 as an assistant coach at USD before being promoted to the head coach. Knighten is the first Black female head coach of any program at USD Athletics and the youngest active softball head coach in NCAA Division I. 

Knighten was a four-year letterwinner for the Huskers from 2014 to 2017. Knighten wrote her way into the Nebraska record books, finishing in the top 10 in 10 different categories. She started 228 of 229 games and was the only Husker to produce 60 hits, 60 runs and 60 RBIs in a season. Knighten earned NFCA All-America honors as a junior in 2016 and became the first four-time All-Big Ten pick in school history.
