On the tone of the team
"Everybody wants to put their best foot forward. Starting off with the winter conditioning and everybody's putting everything out there I'd say. They're getting better, bigger, faster for this upcoming season, but the springtime is now and we're ready. Getting ripped."
 
On the secondary
"It's competitive as you could say right now. It's very competitive with the guys that we have. We can play all the positions on the field and me, [Dicaprio Bootle], [Deontai Williams], and [Marquel Dismuke]. Throw in [Braxton Clark], you have [Quinton Newsome], you have [Myles Farmer]. It's a lot of guys that really want to play and I know it's going to be tough on coach to actually pick who's going to be on the field when the time comes, but everybody's being very competitive right now and wants to play."
 
On a team motto
"I'd say I've been wearing this sweatshirt a lot. I have shirts and things that but be humble. We're not trying to throw high expectations everywhere and we're just focusing on the now and getting better right now. Our motto was day by day. That's what we're going to stick to."
 
On last season
"Nobody likes to lose, and we lost a lot. That's that season and we're on to the now. It's tough to lose, but we plan to change that."
 
On Deontai Williams
"A lot of athleticism. He's so fast he can move and get to the ball when he needs to. We need that, especially with us. When he was down, we were just kind of everywhere. We had to throw people in different positions. Honestly, myself, I wasn't ready. I feel throwing me at safety, I was like alright, now we've got to get on top of it. Get on top of it, stay in film with coach, get right. He was helping me even on the side. With him just being here, he's been in film even when he was hurt. He was in practice watching us. He was helping us. I believe it's great to have him back and I can't wait."
 
On the newcomers
"I see a lot of potential. You can give [Tamon Lynum] his credit. He's come out here during the workouts. He was giving it his all. Also [Jaiden Francois] and [Henry Gray] as well with his encouragement. He likes to boost them up, give them credit for the things that they do."
 
On being a leader
"Trying to do the right things at all times. That's what the definition of being a leader is on and off the field. I wasn't doing so well in school, I had to get back on top of that, make sure that was great and football as well. Treat football just like you do school and you'll be great."
 
On the secondary
 "I believe, to me, just because I am in a [defensive back] group, we're the best groups in all. We're so together. We're always together. We say something, the team responds positively. It's never negative. They listen to it and take that and run with it."
 
On defensive backs coach Travis Fisher
"Fisher is something else. I don't know another coach that can really do it like him. He has a lot to work on. One of the top defensive coaches here, in the nation I'd say. He's the best and that was a big reason that I came here. He was genuine, very real. I didn't have to worry about being away from home or anything like that, but he's a great coach."
 
On the secondary's role
"A big role. We say something, we have a big positive impact on the team. Because we are so together they see that we're out together or just doing something. We're always together. We're talking in group chats, we're laughing [at my dad] in the locker room. Now they're like, okay, let's have a group chat, let's do that. Let's become more together. As long as you're together and everybody's on the same page, it just works like magic."
 
On his focus
"Getting on the field and making plays. Since I was a freshman, it doesn't matter where you put me. Really, I could speak for the rest of the guys, it doesn't matter where you put them. I think we all are getting the whole playbook and every position to where we can just rotate around."
