Huskers Fall in Norfolk, 5-0

Norfolk, Va.-- The Nebraska men's tennis team competed in their second match of the weekend on Sunday against the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Huskers (1-5, 0-0 Big Ten) competed in many hard-fought close matches, but ultimately fell to the Monarchs (6-1, 0-0 C-USA). 

At the no. 6 spot Shunya Maruyama took a 7-6 lead over Oliver Tobisch, but it wasn't enough to lift the Huskers over the Monarchs in singles competition. Albert Sprlak-Puk faced off against the no. 111 ranked player in the country, Luca Maldoner, at the no. 2 spot. Maldoner defeated Sprlak-Puk, 6-1, 6-4. At the no. 1 spot Victor Moreno Lozano fell to Francois Musitelli, 6-1, 6-4. Andre Saleh fought hard against Younes Lalami at the no. 4 spot, but was defeated 6-3, 6-3. Nicola Vidal defeated Patrick Cacciatore at the no. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-3, clinching the Monarch's victory. William Gleason was in a tight battle with Jannik Giesse, but competiton was called before the match concluded.

Victor Moreno Lozano and Shunya Maruyama got off to a hot start in doubles competition in the No. 2 spot, taking a 5-2 lead over Francois Musitelli and Younes Lalami, before the doubles point was decided by the other two match victories for the Monarchs. Albert Sprlak-Puk and Andre Saleh were defeated by Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal at the No. 1 spot, 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, Patrick Cacciatore and Bradley Mittleman were handed the loss by Jannik Giesse and Tomislav Podvinski, 6-2. 

The Huskers look to rebound next weekend as they travel to Eugene, Oregon to take on the Ducks.
