Huskers Bounce Back, Defeat Roos 7-0

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska men's tennis team (1-3, 0-0 Big Ten) earned its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 defeat over the Kansas City Roos (0-1, 0-0 WAC) at the Dillon Tennis Center.

Freshman Albert Sprlak-Puk and sophomore Patrick Cacciatore quickly knocked off Diego Giraldo and Tom Kruse, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot to start off doubles competition. The sophomore duo of Will Gleason and Victor Moreno Lozano fell short to Austin Williams/Jake Fraunfelder, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.

Senior Chris Dean and freshman Chester Wickwire won a hard-fought match at No. 3 over Kacper Piekarek/Brian King, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point for Nebraska.

Freshman Shunya Maruyama notched a double bagel over Jake Fraunfelder at the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-0 -- starting singles play in wonderful fashion. Dean overcame King at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-1, for his first win of the season.

Freshman Andre Saleh clinched the match for the Huskers with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Austin Williams at No. 3. Cacciatore then fought hard to win his match at No. 2, a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Tom Kruse.

Moreno played the first match of his career at the No. 1 spot -- and did so with great success. The sophomore from Madrid, Spain, beat junior Diego Giraldo, 7-5, 7-5, to put the Huskers up 6-0.

At the No. 5 position, Wickwire played a tough match with Piekarek, but came out successful after a second-set tiebreaker, winning 7-5, 7-6 (3).

The Huskers will be back in action next weekend, when they travel to Norfolk, Va., for a pair of road matches. NU takes on SMU on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Noon CT before playing Old Dominion on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. CT. Results
