Cheramie Wins Smallbore at GARC Championships, Huskers in Fifth

Memphis, Tenn. - The Nebraska Rifle team is in fifth place after the first day of the GARC Championships, hosted by Memphis. The nine teams competing at the championships all shot only in the smallbore discipline today, with air rifle to follow tomorrow.
 
The Huskers had two shooters make the smallbore final round, capturing first and third place. Emily Cheramie won the day with the highest individual overall smallbore score, with a total finals score of 460.2. Macey Way took third overall individually with a total finals score of 442.1. Mary Tucker of Kentucky placed second.
 
Way and Cheramie fired smallbore scores of 584 and 582 in the first-relay action, respectively, to qualify for the finals, which featured the top eight individual shooters. Way qualified in second and Cheramie qualified in seventh before storming to the podium in the finals.
 
In qualifying action, Elena Flake fired 576 and Hana Musser shot 571. Kinga Aletto and Maddie Korthas followed with 565 and 564, respectively, to round out the Husker scores.
 
No. 1 Kentucky leads the field after day one of the championships, followed by West Virginia, Navy, Akron, NU, Ole Miss, Memphis, Army and North Carolina State. Air rifle action is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
