Lincoln, NEB.—The Nebraska women's tennis team returns to the Dillon Tennis Center for a pair of matches over the weekend against Colorado State and Iowa State. The Huskers play CSU Friday at 5 p.m. and ISU at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
The 5-3 Huskers look to maintain an undefeated home record while taking on the Rams and Cyclones this weekend.
Last weekend, Nebraska traveled to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., for a trio of matches against UC-Santa Barbara, TCU, and No. 16 UCF. NU fell to UCSB and UCF but came up big over TCU, earning up a 4-0 win.
NU Finds Doubles Groove
Nebraska found doubles success this past weekend in Orlando. Kristina Novak and Hayley Haakenstad paired up at No. 1 to earn a 6-2 win over Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy of TCU. Chloe and Ellie Kuckelman improved to 2-1 at the No. 3 spot after earning a 6-2 win over the Horned Frogs.
Against No. 16 UCF, Claire Reifeis and Isabel Adrover Gallego led the No. 5 doubles team in the nation of Marie Mattel and Rebeka Stolmar, 5-4, when doubles play concluded.
Scouting Colorado State
Colorado State enters Friday's match with a 1-4 record, including a 4-3 win over Grand Canyon last weekend. CSU brings an experienced team to Lincoln, including four seniors, three juniors, and one sophomore.
Junior Priscilla Palermo currently holds a 2-3 record in duals playing out of the No. 3 spot. In 2019, Palermo was 18-12 in singles play and had a team-best doubles record of 19-6. At the No. 1 doubles spot, Stella Cliffe and Emily Luetschwager are 5-0 so far in 2020.
In 2019, the Rams went 11-10 overall, including a 2-4 record in the Mountain West Conference and a first-round 4-1 win over Nevada in the Mountain West Tournament.
The Rams are led by Head Coach Jarod Camerota, who took over the program prior to the 2016-17 season. Historically, Nebraska has never dropped a match to CSU, leading the series 22-0. In 2019, the Huskers beat Colorado State 4-3 at the Dillon Tennis Center.
Scouting Iowa State
Iowa State enters the Dillon Tennis Center with a 6-2 record on the season, including wins over Creighton and South Dakota. The Cyclones suffered a season-opening 4-3 loss vs. Penn State and a 5-2 loss at Alabama.
The 2020 ISU roster welcomes four newcomers, including Ting-Pei Chang and Christin Hsieh, who trained at the same High School in Taipei, Taiwan. Senior, Matty Cancini ranks 12th on Iowa State's overall career wins list at 103 total victories. In 2019, Cancini was 19-15 in singles and a 20-16 mark in doubles during her Junior campaign.
In his second season, the Cyclones are led by Head Coach Boomer Saia. Saia led ISU to a 6-12 record in 2019, including the program's first-ever win over Baylor.
Historically, Nebraska leads the series over Iowa State 41-4. In 2019, ISU defeated Nebraska 4-3 in Lincoln. Before Sunday's match, Iowa State will take on Drake Friday afternoon in Urbandale, Iowa.
