The Nebraska track and field team concluded action at two meets on Saturday, with one meet in Iowa and one in Kansas.
Ieva Turke led the Huskers with the best triple jump of her career to win the title at the Gorilla Classic, her fourth individual win of the season. Turke's mark of 43-0 1/2 (13.12m) ranks ninth in NU history and puts her at No. 2 in the Big Ten in the event this season.
Elsa Forsberg placed fifth in the mile at the Iowa State Classic with a personal-best time of 4:42.16 on the oversized track. Her time is now No. 7 in school history on any size of track.
Back at the Gorilla Classic, freshman Darius Luff won the first title of his collegiate career, taking the men's 60-meter hurdles with a PR of 7.87. Luff edged out fellow Husker Luke Siedhoff, who ran a time of 7.88 to finish as the runner-up. On the women's side, Winsome Harris earned the silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles with a PR of 8.47.
Kayla Hugg ran an indoor personal best of 54.91 in the 400 meters to earn runner-up honors at the Gorilla Classic. Tony Nou placed fourth in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 47.18. Matthew Brown finished with the bronze in the 60 meters, running a time of 6.76.
During other field events in Kansas, Mayson Conner won the high jump title with a clearance of 7-0 1/4 (2.14m), a Gorilla Classic meet record. Alexander Thompson was second in the triple jump with a mark of 49-9 3/4 (15.18m). Kevin Cahoy placed third in the pole vault. His vault of 16-10 3/4 (5.15m) was a season best. McKenzie Pearson was the runner-up to Turke in the triple jump leaping 39-11 1/2 (12.18m). Ashley McElmurry placed fifth with a PR 39-8 (12.09m).
Madison Yerigan and Andy Jacobs both placed in the top five in their respective invitational sections. Yerigan was fourth in the invitational high jump with a height of 5-6 (1.68m), while Jacobs finished fifth in the invitational pole vault with a clearance of 12-10 1/4 (3.92m), her best this season.
The Huskers will host the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday with field events starting at Noon and action on the track beginning at 12:15 p.m. It is the final indoor home meet of the season for the Big Red.
