Waco, Texas—The Nebraska women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season to Baylor on Saturday afternoon at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. With the 6-1 loss, the Huskers fall to 4-1 on the season while Baylor improves to 6-0.
Doubles
Nebraska battled in doubles but came up just short in the deciding match at the No. 1 spot. Chloe and Ellie Kuckelman slipped at No. 2 just before Jessica Aragon and Hayley Haakenstad fought to a 6-4 win at No. 3. At No. 1, Kristina Novak and Claire Reifeis were unable to hold off Baylor in the tiebreaker, falling 6-7 (6).
Singles
Freshman Anna Baranovski fell at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2 to Angie Shakhraichuk of Baylor. At No. 2, Reifeis fell to Anastasia Kharitonova 7-5, 6-1.
Aragon stumbled at No. 4, falling to Alicia Herrero Linana 7-6(6), 6-0. At No. 3, Chloe Kuckelman suffered her first singles loss of the season as she fell to Livia Kraus, 7-6(4), 6-1. Ellie Kuckelman couldn't hold off Jessica Hinojosa in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 5, losing 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
In the final match, freshman Kristina Novak earned NU's lone point with her 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Mel Krywoj. Novak improves to 4-0 on the year, including a 2-0 record from the No.1 spot.
