Huskers Improve to 4-0 Following Saturday Sweep

Lincoln, Neb.,-- The Nebraska women's tennis team improves to 4-0 on the season following back-to-back wins over Air Force and Creighton Saturday at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers started the day with a 4-3 win over Air Force, followed by a 4-0 victory over Creighton.

Air Force took an early 1-0 lead over Nebraska following wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but Nebraska bounced back with a strong singles showing to take down the Falcons.

Jessica Aragon dominated Abby Warner at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Kristina Novak finished shortly after on court 2, earning a 6-1, 6-3 win over Meredith Jones to give Nebraska a 2-1 lead in the match. 

The Huskers stumbled at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, but Ellie and Chloe Kuckelman came up big for Nebraska. Ellie Kuckelman defeated Kristin Kerrigan at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-4 to tie up the match at 3-3. Minutes later, Chloe clinched the match for the Big Red with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nadeen Lieberman.

In 2019, Air Force earned a share of the Mountain West Conference Title backed by a 22-3 including a 4-3 win over the Huskers in Lincoln. 

Following a two-hour break, Nebraska took on in-state foe, Creighton.

The Huskers earned the doubles point over the Jays with wins by Hayley Haakenstad and Claire Reifeis at No. 2 and Aragon and Ellie Kuckelmann at No. 3. 

In her first match out of the No. 1 spot, Novak improves to 3-0 on the season following a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kate Krueger.

Chloe Kuckelman defeated Sarah Wilcox at the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-1 improving to a 4-0 singles record on the season.

Haakenstad closed things out for NU with a 6-1, 7-6(2) over Erin Epperson at No. 4.


Up Next:
The Huskers are set for their first road contest of the season as they travel to Waco, Texas Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. to take on Baylor.
