On the focus this week
“You know we do it every single year so nothing’s really changed. We are just as focused as we can be. We came in yesterday and everyone was as focused as I have ever seen and just locked into learning the game plans. We have done this every year so for us its pretty typical.”
On enthusiasm on the field
“I think it has always been there. I think we just had a lot more guys doing it this week. Its one of those deals where as soon as everyone on the team is getting just as hype when someone else is making a play as they are that’s when teams go from good to great. I think last week we definitely showed a big step in that direction. I’m just excited to see where that goes.”
On vibe between Nebraska and Iowa
“They are a team that we respect. They are an unbelievable team. They have had a very good season this year and we really respect how they play. They are a big, strong, tough, physical team. We are just going to go out there and we know they are a team that is not going to make any mistakes, so this week we are just going to go out there and be as focused as we can and make sure we are the same team they are.”
On importance of tempo
“To be honest whatever we end up calling we just have to execute to the best of our abilities. I have faith in everyone on the team that we are going to do that.”
On not knowing who was going to play last week
“We always preach next man up. Obviously those are pieces you don’t want to lose. They are great ball players, but we've got guys that are two-deep that when they step in we have faith that they are going to make the same plays, and I think that is what really ended up happening. Everyone is just going to continue to keep on practicing as hard as they can and just get that up.”
On the mood after the win
“Obviously Saturday it was a good win and that’s in the past now, and we just flipped the script and moved onto Iowa yesterday. Obviously its good carrying over that momentum but this is a tough Iowa team and we've got a lot of respect for them, and I think they have beaten us four years in a row now. So we've just got to go out there prepare all week and stay focused as we can for them.”
On Iowa’s defense:
“They are really big up top. They are a lot of tough, physical guys. Like I said they are just not going to be making mistakes. We've just got to make sure that we detail everything up and make sure we are focused in on our game plan.”
On last year’s game
“Last year was last year. All we can do is really look forward to this game, but like I said, last year I think it shows that we can play with them and its a whole different team this year. We are just going to keep grinding it out this week.”
On the last two weeks
“Its been good. I think we have just become a lot more physical as a team. A lot tougher up front. Its happening game by game. We are just going to keep working on it in practice. We are just going to hope it carries over on Friday.”
On Luke McCaffrey
“Luke is an extremely versatile guy. You can just see the raw athleticism that he’s got. He’s going to be a hell of a ball player for us in the future. I just look forward to however we use him whether that is how we did last week or if that’s at quarterback, wherever he’s needed but he’s a hell of a ball player and I can’t wait to see him in the future.”
On senior day
“There’s a lot of guys I have ended up being close to. We have all been through a lot. We've just got to go and sell out for them. They have gone through a lot here. I think we owe it to them to go out there and give it our all.”
On what the seniors have been through
“I think it is pretty obvious. They have been through a few coaching changes. A lot of different position coaches. All these guys have stuck through and grinded through. We've got a lot of respect for these guys. At the end day we've just got to go make sure that we do everything we can. Lay it all out on the field from them.”
On the senior’s legacy
“I think time will tell on that question. It’s one of those deals where right now, I don’t think I can give you an answer but I know personally all of those that come to work every single day. They bring their lunch pale. They give it their all. To me that is all you can do, and I couldn’t be happier to call those guys my teammates and my brothers.”
On the seniors changing the culture
“Absolutely. Again a lot of those guys just blue collar getting in there working. A lot of those guys have been leaders this year. Stepping up being vocal. Just having those guys around has really helped develop the culture and couldn’t be more happy for some of those guys and have them be my teammates.”
On the Nebraska-Iowa rivalry
“For us its another game. We are going to prepare like we do every single week. We are going to pay a lot of attention to the game plan. Grind it out through practice. We are going to pay just as much attention to Iowa as we did Maryland last week. We are just going to be focused on doing everything we can and just getting prepared for the game.”
