Collin Miller
Junior, Linebacker

On Saturday’s win over Maryland
“It was a really good team win. Great night, going out there with our guys. Offense played good, defense played good, special teams played good. Just have to transfer that over to Iowa.”

On the focus, this week to prepare for Iowa
“I definitely think guys have to dial in. We know what’s at stake. Senior day, bowl game eligibility, rival game, so we just want to go out there and play how we play and end up with a victory.”

On Iowa
“Iowa is a very disciplined team. They do everything the right way. Coaches tell them what to do and they do it the right way, so they’re not going to make a lot of mistakes so we have to be in our spots at the right time. You've got to do your job, you've got to know that your teammates are going to do their job, and just play 100 percent.”

On what he has seen from the Nebraska defense
“We really worked on the culture and family-like atmosphere. The defensive line, Khalil [Davis] you guys saw him in the last game, Khalil, Carlos [Davis], Darrion [Daniels], our D line is playing terrific. Linebackers are flying around, DB’s are all over the place. Going against Iowa, you have to play your best, they are going to bring it and they are a very disciplined team like I said. Just got to perform your task.”

On the difference between Iowa and Wisconsin
“They do a lot of things that Wisconsin does, a lot of the run. They know that their stretch is their number one run. I mean, if you stop the stretch and make them pass the ball get them to 2nd-and-8 or 3rd-and-7, make them pass, we should be pretty good.”

On Iowa’s offensive line
“Big strong guys up front, 6-foot-5 is the average height, 315-320 ya know, big boys. We played Wisconsin. We’ve seen big guys. I just think we have to perform at our best, 100 percent every play. If you get tired tap your head and call somebody else in and have them go 100 percent. It’s the last day, hopefully not the last game, but it’s senior day versus Iowa, a rivalry game so we've just have to go all out.”

On how the Nebraska linebackers have done against the run
“It helps having three people in the rotation now; me, Will [Honas], and Mo [Barry]. Having those defensive linemen up there in the front to hold the offensive line back and strike them and opening the gaps up definitely have some improvement to be made. We are just here getting better every day, working on our craft every day."

On fixing issues against the run at linebacker
“Definitely just watching film with Coach Ruud and Coach Chinander, seeing where we made mistakes, working on our craft, working on our feet, our eye, communication, just really trying to better our craft and you guys will see Saturday we worked on it really hard.”

On Mo Barry playing his final game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday
“We want to send these seniors out the right way. Mohamed put everything on the line for Nebraska, he loves Nebraska, so he helped the young guys like me, Will [Honas], Luke Reimer, Joey Johnson, all those young guys to see what Nebraska needs and see how Nebraska needs to be treated. He has definitely set a foundation of how Nebraska players should play on and off the field. Definitely trying to get a win for him on senior day.”

On the geography of the states playing a role in the rivalry with Iowa
“Those guys don’t really like us, but I don’t think you like anybody that’s in the Big Ten, you know? Everyone is pretty good in the Big Ten, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, doesn’t matter where they’re at. Years and years, we haven’t liked them, they haven’t liked us too much. We haven’t won in a couple of years, so we want to bring that back and show everyone that Nebraska is back here against Iowa and we are here to stay.”

On if losing to Iowa four year in a row is motivation
“Definitely, that’s on our minds. It sucks, those guys not respecting us, they come into Lincoln thinking they can win this with ease, that this isn’t a real rivalry, that hurts. But we use that as momentum and the guys are really focused and dialed in that this is a big week, we really want to show everybody that we are here.”

On why he thinks Iowa thinks that they can come to Nebraska and win
“The last years, we haven’t beat them. We were talking a lot about what we wanted this season and they have a better record than us and I think they don’t have respect for Nebraska anymore and they have a couple of games on us.”

On the defensive mindset for Iowa
“I think D-linemen have worked hard knowing this is going to be stretch game, it’s going to be a big trenches game. Just have to bring physicality here more than ever, just putting our minds to knowing that we are going to get it done.”

On Mo Barry helping him with the transition from outside to inside linebacker
“He met with me basically every day. Watching film, watching keys, talking communication and what I need to see. He definitely does a good job of telling you what you need to see, telling you what you need to do, he’s fantastic. Some guys could say ‘screw you, I’m going to worry about myself’ but no, he knows, let me bring this new guy that doesn’t know the position in, teach him the ropes, show him what he needs to see, tell him what he needs to do. He’s a great kid.”

On having a lot of depth
“It keeps people striving for more. You play some guys, but guys are still scratching and clawing to get to the filed. You guys saw it, Luke Reimer, he’s a terrific player and he’s itching every day in practice ‘I want one more rep, one more rep.’ I think it helps having guys that can rotate in, it keeps the energy going and the legs healthy. I think it helps a lot.”
