Third year student-athletes attended the Financial Forum hosted by Husker Life Skills on Sunday night at Memorial Stadium. Brad Ewerth, of Ewerth & Associates, led a workshop for all student-athletes in attendance on the importance of having a financial game plan in order to succeed after college. Specifically, Ewerth discussed steps student-athletes can take now to prepare for that transition and offered resources attendees could use moving forward.
Kate Cain from Women's Basketball shared, "It was helpful to hear what steps I can take in building a personal financial plan and how important it is to have a plan in general. I learned more about budgeting and what to expect in terms of responsibly allocating the money I would earn each month."
Ewerth covered topics including taxes, saving accounts, basic investment knowledge, and how to budget each month. Student-athletes were asked to reflect on what their assumptions about personal finance were, then discuss in groups the reality they may face after their collegiate careers. Cain continued, "Overall, I appreciated hearing about these topics that aren't always discussed. I definitely plan to use what I learned on Sunday in the future."
