Wan'Dale Robinson
Freshman, Running Back/Wide Receiver

On his favorite play from the Northwestern game
“Probably that shovel pass, that was my favorite, but it was also the one I criticize myself the most on. Not getting in the end zone hurt us, obviously, we didn’t score on that drive, so I've got to make sure I make that play next week.“

On if he’ll have to take on a bigger role with the uncertainty of Adrian Martinez and JD Spielman
“No, not necessarily. We have confidence in all the guys, all the receivers, all the running backs we have confidence in. We have confidence in Noah [Vedral.] Really just going through the weeks exactly as we’ve been doing, preparing the same way we have and just making sure we’re good on offense.”

On junior wide receiver JD Spielman
“He’s helped me a lot like I’ve said before, he’s like my brother. If I have any questions about football, he’s there for me, if I have any questions about anything, he’s there for me. He’s taught a lot especially with playing the receiver position at the college level because I’ve obviously never done that. Just watching him a lot especially through spring ball and fall camp I’ve learned a lot from him.”

On earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week and his expectations coming to Nebraska
“I expected to come in and play and I expected to come in and have an impact. Not specifically having those awards, I just wanted to come in and help our team win.”

On how he’s holding up physically
“I feel pretty good. Our training staff does a really good job of getting our bodies right and making sure that we’re good whenever it comes time for games. Just making sure that I take care of my body every week and every day is the big thing with me, and I feel like I’ve done a pretty good job with that.”

On his willingness to play running back
“They said however much we need you to. I told them I don’t care how much you need me to play running back. I don’t care how much you need me to play receiver, whichever one you need me to play, I’m going to play. Also, whatever the easiest way for them to get the ball in my hands that’s how the coaches feel, too.”

On when he knew of the possibility to play running back
“That was before I even signed. When they started recruiting me, they told me I was going to be used in the running back role, the receiver role. Those things I envisioned myself doing when I got here, and they obviously came to life."

On his confidence when playing running back
“I just feel like once you get the ball in your hands it’s all the same. At the receiver position when I get the ball into my hands, I feel like I turn into a running back and not just try to go down and get however many yards. At the running back position, as soon as I get the ball my intentions are to score.”

On playing in the snow
“I’ve never played in the snow before so that’ll be a first.”

On how snow or colder conditions changes the offensive plan
“I don’t really think it will change much. Obviously, if it’s a blizzard, things will change, but if it’s just drizzling down, I think we’ll still call some of the same stuff, and I’ll still try to play my own game.”

On if he was ever recruited as a running back
“My final list of schools, most of them were receiver. They said I would be thrown in the backfield some, but not like here where I’d be both and at each play, I could line up in the backfield or at receiver. The majority of my recruitment I was being recruited as a receiver.”

On if it’s more work to know both positions
“At this point, I don’t really feel like it’s too much work since I’ve been doing it four years before I got here. I just had to learn the receiver position. I had to learn the running back position and I treated it the same way I did in high school, making sure I knew everything.”

On if practice prepares the team to switch quarterbacks
“Oh yeah definitely. Every quarterback just goes about with every receiver at some point in time during practice so you’re comfortable with just about everybody that’s in the game. Whenever Noah [Vedral] got in the game we were really, really comfortable because Noah had taken first-team reps before. It was really no different than having Adrian [Martinez] out there.”

On freshman quarterback Luke McCaffrey
“Luke has an arm. He can throw the ball and he’s arguably one of the fastest players on our team, too. Once everybody gets to see him run that’ll be pretty exciting.”

On being a young offense
“I think it comes with time. Over time we are going to keep getting better and better, and once we get to later in the season then we’ll really be clicking, and everything will be working the right way.”

On what Noah Vedral brings to the field
“Noah kind of has that swagger about him. You can just look at him and tell he has that swag; I love that about Noah. He can make all the reads, all the throws, he’s confident in us and we are confident in him and he’s just been really good for our offense.”
