Pre-Illinois
On what is the biggest thing he’s learned through three games of college football
“It’ definitely different. The speed of the game is different. You kind of have to be able to read coverages a little bit more playing teams that want to disguise and play trap and things like that. Whenever teams are pointing you out. That’s something I realized in our last game. They [Northern Illinois] were pointing me out wherever I was, so I had to be aware of who was kind of coming at me and who was trying to guard me. Those type of things.”
On what he expects from his first Big Ten road game
“I just think that it’ll be kind of a normal road game. I don’t think it will be anywhere near the type of environment we had at Colorado. So, I feel like we’ll have plenty of fans there, it’ll almost be like a home game again. I think everything will be fine after that.”
On what the Big Ten season means to him
“It means everything. It means everything to our football team. It depends on where we go and however many Big Ten games we win that just kind of projects where we go in postseason and hopefully we’re in the Big Ten Championship.”
On what he’s seen defensively to counter his play
“Just trying to get hands on a lot, just not trying to let me get into my routes. A lot of trap. Any time I motion, there’s a guy running with me or running right at me. Just those type of things to make sure I don’t get the ball in my hands.”
On what he likes the most from the offense
“I like everything. Any way I can get the ball in my hands and make plays that’s what I like the most.”
On playing running back
“I’m comfortable at running back. I’ve actually played more running back in my life than I have receiver. Running back is more of my comfort ability, but I feel like I play receiver equally as well.”
On the chemistry with Adrian Martinez
“I feel like it continues to grow every day. In practice, I feel like we get a little bit better with something. Just him making a throw and then I’ll go and talk to him about it. That just helps us every game and every practice, too.”
On if this has been what he expected college football to be like
“It’s probably gone about the way that I expected. I expected to be used the way that I am now. I expected the games to go that way. Guys have already told me the way games were going to go, and I’ve been here through spring ball too so I got acclimated to the college game a little early.”
On feedback he gets from family and friends back home
“Everybody, especially where I’m from, don’t get to do what I do. It’s kind of special for me. I like to do a lot of this for my city. Nobody from my city has been as highly touted, I guess you could say as I have been. I just try to have a good representation for my city and everybody back home.”
On how much he likes playing fast
“That’s a lot better than having to go out and think. Whenever you get a signal and you know exactly what you have to do and how to get open it’s a lot better than going out there and trying to figure out what the defense is doing and what I have to do. Just getting out there and playing fast is a lot better than going out there and having to think.”
On if anything has caught him off guard so far
“Nothing really. I’ve tried to take in the moment every step of the way. I’ve tried to take it all in and not rush myself and just know that I’m a freshman, and I have time to take it all in and I still have time to adjust and do things like that, too.”
