On Brenden Jaimes getting injured on Saturday
“That’s my brother. That is plain and simple. I mean, my brother is down on the ground and I want him to get back up, regardless of who it is.  We have suffered together and we strive together. So, when any one of them goes down it is kind of like ‘come on, get up, get up.’ And that is all that really goes through your mind, I was just waiting for him to get up. I hate seeing when one of my brothers is down. I just want to see him get up.”

On preparing this week
“I mean it is the same as every week. No matter what you do, you can never take a step back or sleep on someone. You always have this mentality of you have to be better than who you were yesterday. So I mean every rep we do, every play, everything, has to be better than who we were. It has to be better than who we were even just a play ago. You have to constantly be on this uphill climb. We can’t plateau at any point. That has been a great stressor, this whole season is. Never get satisfied and just keep pushing forward.”

On redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Broc Bando
“Just go. That is what we have been practicing for. Next guy is up. We have a belief that if anyone else has to come in, anyone has to sub in, there is no such thing as a drop-off. You’re there, you’ve worked for that position for a reason. And we have put you in that position for a reason. Now go and prove it. And, I mean, he did a really good job, especially just coming out there.”

On Bando’s confidence
“He knew what he was doing. I mean our practices, honestly, tend to be a lot harder than a game just because we don’t have anyone to stop the tempo, so we are thinking extremely fast. Our defense, they’re trying to get set up fast. Everything we do is extremely fast. The refs kind of help us out a little bit. They sometimes will slow us down just because we have to get the balls set. I mean he was more than ready and prepared coming out there and he did an excellent job.”

On Bando’s improvement
“He has changed a lot. He has just adapted and overcame some adversity and he picked up. It’s the little things. When you’re an O-lineman, it’s the little things. If you’re taking an inch too far in your step, all your weight is shifting one way and he has done a great job really fine-tuning his details. I am just extremely proud of him because he is kind of seeing some of the benefits of all the work he has been doing.”

On the film
“I say we had a better game than our last two. We had a couple of plays that we have to get back. We have lost and we have learned from it. I mean there are always going to be those mistakes. Overall, I think we did a much better job of just playing, all 11 guys doing a correct job, doing the right play. It shows, when 11 guys do their jobs, good things happen. There was a lot more of that than mistakes happening on Saturday.”

On the strong drives
“I know that we are capable. Those big yard plays happen because we do our job correctly. It happens because we get bodies on bodies, we have the holes covered up, our running backs are going to hit the hole, our wide receivers are blocking their tails off and creating the bubble screens and getting them out and open. So I mean, what is the difference? All it is is just doing the same thing for a little bit longer. I mean we practice it over and over again, so I have no doubt in my mind if we have to do a 10-play drive it is no problem.”

On the young offensive linemen
“I mean it is always fun when you get to see the younger guys get to go. They are just as excited. They are eager. They are kind of stuck in that purgatory of waiting. They are just as hungry as everyone else in that they want to play. They are just kind of waiting for that ‘hey coach, put me in, put me in’ and they’re just waiting for it. They do a great job of not only one, being locked in the entire time because when they come off the field they actually kind of tell us what they see. They will tell us ‘hey watch out for this, look out for this.’ They are extremely great at what they do and they are just as important as us on the field when they are on the sidelines because they are kind of giving us scouting reports from a different angle of what they see. Honestly, they are just awesome.”

On the new offensive scheme
“I mean we have gotten used to it. We want to be an explosive and fast offense. What that means is that we are going to score fast. Our defense has to take a little more workload because we are trying ot score as fast as possible unless it is an end of the game situation. They have to be in great shape and kind of take the long run but, we want to go. We have the mentality of, we are kind of doing this ‘let’s see how fast we can go’ not ‘take our time and score.’ Everything we do is part of the reason we do this tempo because we can create these explosive plays. We can use our stamina and we are used to it so we can keep those fast plays going and kind of drain the energy a little bit of the other teams that aren’t ready for our tempo.”

On freshman offensive lineman Bryce Benhart
“He looked like he belonged. It was really cool, I love the kid. Like I have said earlier, he is someone who always wants to work and is already ready to go. He did a great job, he didn’t have that deer in the headlights look. He knew what he was supposed to do. We have done it all week in practice. He saw it all week in practice, and he just went out there and executed. They've got him a couple of times and I mean it happens but, overall, he did a great job. I am extremely proud of how he did.”

On if practice pace helps prepare for games
“Oh yeah. I mean you want to try to make practice harder than the games because then you see everything you, you know everything, you have taken this rep 20 times so you know exactly what to expect. It is a huge help to understanding what is going on in the middle of the game. With those reps under your belt, the game gets a lot easier.”

On if the practice pace helps slow down the game
“Yep, you get a little bit more time. It feels more natural. Everything you do just feels more natural because you have done it over and over so you’re like ‘oh, okay I know what I am doing.’”
