Ben Stille, Defensive Lineman
What was different for you this past summer compared to other summers?
"Every summer I’ve been here we’ve put in a lot of work. I think this summer we were way ahead of where we were last summer as far as the amount of weight we’ve been able to move in the weight room and as far as knowing what we were doing and what Coach Duval wanted in the weight room and technique and stuff like that. We also had from that standpoint the learning curve and we’re able to just pull that further."
On comparing this year's defensive line to last year
"It’s not even close as in last year I wasn’t even sure about defense anywhere near where I am now. Just as far as having an overall understanding of it. Of having an understanding of where the other guys are at. Where the defense fits. I think that is the biggest difference between this year and last year."
On the defense's competitiveness compared to last summer
"It ups the competition between the offense and the defense. As far as when we’re going against them in camp the stakes are a lot higher. You play with a lot more confidence and it makes the competition that much better when we go against the one and two offense."
On the unity of the team
"I think that’s something you show throughout camp. It’s the hardest part of any season is fall camp. The week we come and work out six days a week. Just coming to work out each day. Not having any falloffs around practice five or six."
On the team's added depth
"I think that’s huge. Some of the first couple of years I was here the depth wasn’t there. Playing four or five guys on the D-line isn’t ideal. So hopefully be able to elevate that to seven, eight, nine guys this year. Get a rotation like that and hopefully be able to wear the offense down when their O-line’s in there every single play. For the other team not rotating and us sub in and sub out and not having a drop off will be huge for us."
On his own improvements in his game
"Definitely say run game. Hold them up in the run game and see more style in the run game is where I wanted to improve on. Having a better understanding of how to do that and our defense will be something. That was something for me this spring and during fall camp to improve on."
On Darrion Daniels' impact this summer
"He continued to be a leader throughout this summer as well so that’s something that’s good for us. Adds a different dynamic to the D-line room. Brings a lot of energy especially to the whole defense. From an energy standpoint that’s an amazing thing, and amazing characteristic you can have."
