Lincoln, Neb. – Women’s Track and Field Student-Athlete Candice Dominguez and Women’s Golf Student-Athlete Noor Ahmed will both travel to Atlanta for the Winning Edge Leadership Academy's Game Changing Retreat. Executive Director Corrine Milien founded the Retreat with a goal in mind, the goal to diversify sports business with current and former student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
“The Winning Edge Leadership Academy is hosting the Game Changing Retreat to influence and prepare student-athletes for a career in sports business,” said Milien. “The focus of this intense, multi-day experience will be on networking, industry discussions, cultivating leadership, and creating career objectives.”
Active presentations, a networking dinner, professional mentors and fellowship will be some of the many benefits of attending for Dominguez and Ahmed. As both embark on their journey to learn more about sport business, both will represent Nebraska as the only institution in the country with two participants from the same school. Of nearly 100 applicants, Nebraska boasts two of 16 total participants. Diversity and Inclusion Director DaWon Baker discovered the Retreat, and quickly shared it with Nebraska staff members to identify potential applicants.
“I had a personal relationship with both Noor and Candice, so when the application was available, I spoke with both of them and they both jumped on the opportunity to apply,” said Baker. “It’s important to expose our student-athletes to these opportunities, they are the future of our business and these opportunities will ensure they have an opportunity to advance in the business.”
