No. 1 seed Tanner Owen outlasted a pair of formidable foes to advance to the quarterfinals at the 52nd Nebraska Match Play Championship at The Players Club in Omaha on Wednesday.
Owen, a senior-to-be for the Nebraska men's golf team, defeated Michael Croker (Gretna) 1 up in Wednesday's first-round match. The Husker from Parkville, Mo., then squared off with former Husker and NFL defensive lineman Jay Moore (Elkhorn). Moore held a 3 up lead after 10 holes, before Owen rallied to win five of the next six holes. Owen closed out the match with a 1 up win.
Owen faces Dan Huston (Omaha) in Thursday's quarterfinals, with semifinals to follow at 12:30 p.m.
