RALEIGH, N.C. - Nebraska redshirt freshman Peyton Robb finished second in the 70 kg challenge tournament on Friday at the 2019 USA Wrestling Junior World Team Trials.
In the challenge tournament final, Robb scored the first six points and led 6-2 midway through the opening period of the final. Brayton Lee (Minnesota) fought back to cut the margin down to 8-6 after the opening three-minutes. In the second period, Lee had a flurry of points and won via a 17-8 decision.
Robb won his semifinal match over Brock Mauller (Missouri) by a 12-2 technical fall in 3:52 to advance to the 70-kg challenge tournament final.
At 61 kg, redshirt freshman Jevon Parrish reached the consolation semifinals. Frankie Tal-Shahar (Sheldon Wrestling Academy Training) defeated Parrish by 10-0 technical fall in 3:38. Parrish bounced back with a win by default over Jordan Decatur (Ohio State) and with a 10-0 technical fall over Teague Travis (unattached) in 2:51 to advance to the third-place match on Saturday.
Redshirt freshman Austin Emerson also competed at 125 kg at the Junior World Team Trials, but was eliminated with an 0-2 record.
Action at the World Team Trials continues on Saturday, as four wrestlers with Nebraska ties (James Green, T.J. Dudley, Dom Bradley and Colton McCrystal) will compete in the Senior Freestyle World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, beginning at 9 a.m. Parrish will wrestle for third place in his weight class in the Junior WTT finals series, with action commencing at 12:30 p.m.
