Last Time Out:
On March 16, the Big Red dropped a 7-0 contest to No. 23 Michigan. The No. 3 doubles duo of Hayley Haakenstad and Jeannie Lozowski were the only Huskers to claim a win in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The following day, Nebraska traveled 60 miles northwest to take on the Michigan State Spartans. Nebraska would suffer a tight 4-3 loss to the Spartans before returning home to Lincoln.
Lozowski Solid at No. 3:
Junior, Jeannie Lozowski spent the better part of the beginning of the season playing out of the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. On Feb. 23 against Colorado State, the Port Saint Lucie, Fla. native, began playing out of the No. 3 spot. Since the switch, Lozowski has gone 3-2, including wins over Iowa State and Michigan State.
Reifeis Shows Strength in Singles and Doubles:
Despite dropping both matches at No. 2 singles this past weekend, junior Claire Reifeis still holds the best singles record in the Husker lineup. The Indianapolis, Ind., native is 5-2 out of the No. 1 spot and 6-3 at No. 2, giving her 11 singles wins in 2019. Reifeis holds victories over players from Kansas State, Louisville, and Washington State.
Teaming up with freshman Jessica Aragon, the No. 2 duo has accumulated seven wins since pairing up for the first time against Kansas State on Feb. 1.
Scouting Ohio State:
With a 12-2 record and a winning streak of 9 matches, the No. 14 Buckeyes are hot heading into Lincoln. Head coach Mellissa Schaub leads the talented Buckeyes. In her six years leading the program, OSU has appeared in five NCAA tournaments, advancing as far as the national semifinals in 2017.
So far in 2019, Ohio State has put together an impressive resume, including 6-1 wins over No. 42 Notre Dame and No. 49 Penn State. Freshman, Isabella Boulais has already made a notable impact in the Buckeye lineup. The Mississauga, Ontario, currently holds a No. 71 singles ranking while playing out of the No. 1 spot.
Scouting Penn State:
The Nittany Lions enter Sunday’s match with a 9-4 record on the season. Most recently, Penn State suffered a 1-6 loss against No. 14 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. With wins over Big Ten foe, Iowa, and No. 48 VCU, Penn State broke into the ITA rankings at No. 49 the week of March 12th.
In his eighth season with the Nittany Lions and fifth as head coach, PSU is led by Chris Cagle. Cagle has seen significant improvement in his team since the 2018 season when Penn State went 7-15 overall and 2-9 in the Big Ten.
