Lincoln – Head Coach Sean Maymi announced the signing of Albert Sprlak-Puk to a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday, March 12. Sprlak-Puk will join the Nebraska men’s tennis team as a freshman in the 2019-20 season.
Sprlak-Puk, a native of Brno, Czech Republic, has reached as high as No. 176 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings. Since 2016, Sprlak-Puk has notched five semifinal appearances and has won two titles in several tournaments around Europe.
The Czech won the 2017 Bavarian Junior Championships in Cadolzburg, Germany, and the 2016 Krka Open, in Slovenia.
In 2018, Sprlak-Puk participated in four ITF Futures events in his native country, competing with tennis professionals around the world.
The Czech Republic native is Maymi’s second recruit since his arrival at Nebraska in July 2018, and the second member of the Huskers’ 2019-20 class – Andre Saleh, a five-star recruit out of Newport Beach, Calif., signed an NLI on November 15, 2018, to join NU’s squad next season. Saleh was ranked No. 13 in California and No. 15 in the Southwest region in tennis recruiting lists. Nationally, he was ranked as high as No. 52.
The Nebraska men’s tennis team will host the No. 39 Wichita State Shockers on Friday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. CT at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln. Admission is free.
