Scouting SMU

SMU holds a 2-1 record this season after a pair of home wins vs. Prairie View A&M on Jan. 17 and a loss at Texas on Jan. 20. The Mustangs concluded the 2018 season at 9-18, including a 0-6 mark in the American Athletic Conference. SMU has a young 13-man roster with five freshmen, six sophomores and only one junior and one senior.

Scouting Northern Colorado

The Bears are 1-1 on the season after beating Northern Kentucky at home on Jan. 19 and falling at Air Force on Jan. 20. Last season, Northern Colorado went 11-13, with a 1-10 Big Sky record. The Bears return five letterwinners from 2017-18, as one freshman, three sophomores, three juniors and one senior compose Northern Colorado’s 2019 roster.

Series History

This will be the sixth meeting all-time between Nebraska and SMU, as the Mustangs hold a 5-0 record against the Huskers -- the most recent match was a 5-2 SMU home win in 2015.

NU has faced Northern Colorado two times in history, and won both matches: the first in 1980 at Northern Colorado, 5-4; and the last one in 2016 at home, 7-0.

Last Time Out

The Huskers traveled to Tallahassee for the Florida State Spring Invitational, Jan. 12-13. NU dropped a pair of matches to Florida Atlantic and Louisiana on Jan. 12, but bounced back with a sweep of Florida A&M on Jan. 13.

Boyer, Klousia to Lead Huskers in 2019

Senior Toby Boyer and junior Micah Klousia return as a pair of strong assets to Nebraska’s lineup in 2019. In the fall, Boyer and Klousia earned a berth among the nation’s top 32 doubles teams, as they qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 7-8. Before that, the Husker duo produced an impressive 4-1 run at the ITA Central Regionals on Oct. 18-22. Boyer/Klousia upset the tournament’s No. 1 seed (Arkansas) before knocking off teams from Creighton and Tulsa to earn a spot among the event’s four best pairs.

Maymi Develops Stronger Non-Conference Schedule

As a starting point for a program turnaround in 2019, first-year head coach Sean Maymi developed a stronger non-conference schedule for the Huskers. Half of Nebraska’s opponents this year (six of 12) were ranked at the end of the 2018 season in ITA Division I rankings: Baylor (No. 17), Texas Tech (No. 36), Loyola Marymount (No. 55), Drake (No. 65) and Wichita State (No. 71). Last year, Nebraska did not face any ranked non-conference teams.
