Lincoln - Nebraska's Vanessa Bouvet was honored as the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, Nov. 7, the first conference award of her young career and the first award for the Huskers in 2018-19.
Bouvet (pronounced BOO-vay) captured the award by tying for runner-up honors at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii, Oct. 31. The freshman from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, fired a two-under-par 70 in the only round of the rain-shortened tournament, trailing the tournament champion Hannah Alberto from Sam Houston State by just one stroke.
Her performance in Hawaii gave Bouvet a pair of top-five finishes in five fall events to open her career. Bouvet got the season off to an impressive start by tying for third in a 75-player field at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic (Sept. 17-19). She finished with a three-round total of 214, including a four-under-par 68 in the second round. Her performance on the second day of the tournament tied for the second-best round by a freshman in Nebraska history. Bouvet was tied for the tournament lead with two-time All-Big Sky golfer Tara Finigan from Boise State through 51 holes, after erasing Finigan's seven-shot lead to open the final round.
Bouvet's 74.00 stroke average through 13 fall rounds ranked second among the Huskers and is on pace to challenge for Nebraska's freshman season record. She produced four rounds better than par during the fall campaign.
