Lamar Jackson
Junior Defensive Back
On the game this weekend
“We kind of decided for Michigan State, our coaches actually told us, we have to practice like it is a mixture of a little bit of Ohio State, a little bit of Illinois, and a little bit of Northwestern. They kind of do well with getting us out of position by formation and stuff like that. They are a big physical group, but we are going to put a plan in place for that as well. At the end of the day, we are just preparing like any other week to put up a fight and get a win.”

On the defense

“I feel like the defense is playing at a high level. Both sides of the ball, the offense is starting it quick but even that we still have high expectations for them. But on the defensive end, I feel like we can always do better. Even Coach came in today and told us we played well but we could have played better. At the end of the day, we are getting wins, we are keeping the points as low as we can so we kind of just have to be happy with that. We are getting the ball out. We are going in the right direction but we are far from where we can be and where we should be. So, we just continue to hope to continue to go up and to rise.”

On the forced fumbles

“We are just playing. We are having fun out there. We are playing together and everybody has a knack for the ball and everybody wants to be that guy to make the play. Everybody wants to celebrate and everybody wants to help the team win. I just feel like, at this point, in the second half of the season we are just trying to put this team together and show everybody that we have fight and that we aren’t quitters and that this thing is on the way, is on the rise.”

On the importance of winning the next two games

“That could be big, you know, five wins. That allows us to potentially be able to play in a bowl game. So, like Coach said, these are two good teams that we are about to face in the next two weeks, but, if we execute at a high level and we play football we can easily beat them or just put up a fight and play a good game. We plan on winning both but they are both good teams so we just have to execute and make sure we go out there and fight for four quarters.”

On the senior class

“The seniors have been here through everything so I mean they are helping and we respect them and stuff like that, but, going towards the future this is going to be everyone else’s team, they have possibly two weeks left. We are trying to just send them out more than anything in a great way. They know what the young guys and the people who are coming back have to look forward to with this program. We just want to send them out as winners rather than as losers so, if anything, we want to get these next two for them.”

On the captains

“They brought leadership, that is exactly what they did. This is a team that we had a lot of cliques, it was just a whole lot of stuff going on, they are kind of just bringing us all together. With the help of the coaches, they have kind of given us no choice but to bond and be together and be one unit and win as a team, lose as a team and go through everything as a team. The captains are just a voice for us as well as the coaches coming back to us. They play their role as captains great and they are helping the team out.”

On Stanley Morgan
“Stan is one of the guys you have to just see. Everybody sees what Stan can do on Saturdays and stuff like that but that isn’t just Saturdays. He competes each day, every day at a high level and working hard. You don’t have to say too much, you just have to see how it is going to work. He goes to work without brakes. He is running routes full speed, he’s giving everybody a good looking. You have to do the same. He is making everybody better, we have to make him better.
