Huskers Conclude Final Day of Ivy Plus Invitational

Princeton, N.J. -- Nebraska concluded its participation at the Ivy Plus Invitational on Sunday after three days of competition in the tournament hosted by Princeton University, in Princeton, N.J.

Toby Boyer, Chris Dean, William Gleason and Micah Klousia represented the Huskers in Princeton, collecting a total of five singles wins and a pair of doubles wins. Assistant Coach Tom Boysen was praised with his players' performance in the first tournament of the fall season.

"This event provided our players with some great competitive experience," Boysen said. "This tournament attracts players from some of the best teams in the country, so it was extremely beneficial to see our guys in situations against players of that caliber. We are just getting started in our season, and matches like these give us great feedback as to what we need to work on. There were many bright spots throughout the weekend.”

Boyer and Gleason earned third place in the Silver doubles draw after a 6-1 victory over Martim Vilela/Daniel Nuzhny (Wisconsin). Meanwhile, Klousia and Dean finished fourth in the Gold Red doubles draw after a tough 6-3 loss to Villhelm Fridell/Nickolas Frisk (Buffalo).

In singles play, Gleason fell short to Nick Watson (LSU), 7-6, 7-6 and finished second in the Jadwin Red bracket. In a pair of additional out-of-bracket matches, Boyer defeated Eero Vasa (Cornell), 6-7, 7-6, 10-6 and Klousia lost to Jared Pratt (Wisconsin), 6-4, 6-4.

The Huskers rest for a couple of weeks before traveling to Tulsa, Okla. for the ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa. The tournament will run from Oct. 2 through Oct. 9.
