NU Set to Tee Off Season at Rod Myers Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. - The Nebraska men's golf team will begin the fall portion of the 2018-19 season at the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke University on Saturday, Sept. 8th.

The tournament will take place at Duke University Golf Club, the site of the 2001 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, which first opened in 1957. Duke will play host to a field of 13 teams that consists of several traditionally nationally ranked golf squads, with eight programs advancing to postseason NCAA play last spring.

The Huskers are returning every major contributor from the 2017-18 season, a year in which no seniors were on the team. Nebraska will lean on the leadership of seniors Jace Guthmiller and Jackson Wendling, who will make appearances in the lineup yet again after competing for the Husker squad in every invitational their junior seasons. Guthmiller enters the year following a junior campaign in which he posted a career-best stroke average of 73.48. Wendling comes into the event after posting a stroke average of 74.76 last year and looks to reprise his role as a cornerstone in the Husker lineup.

Senior Dylan McCabe will also be traveling to the season opener after competing in four of Nebraska's tournaments last season, garnering a season stroke average of 76.67. Junior Tanner Owen will bring his experience back to the Husker lineup after competing in seven events last year and posting a stroke average of 76.55.

Freshman Tristan Nelko will make his debut for the Huskers this weekend. Nelko, the reigning Minnesota Class AAA Individual State Champion, looks to translate his high school success to the collegiate level.
