Senior Offensive Lineman Jerald Foster

On Luke Gifford and his fellow captains:
“Being able to be a captain with Giff, being able to grow up with Luke, we’ve known each other since the summer of our eighth grade year. So being able to know each other and just see each other turn into the men that we are today. I’m really excited and I’m so happy that I’m able to be out there with one of the guys that has really been my friend since we were really young. It’s exciting. Not only talking about Giff though, the other two captains with Stan (Stanley Morgan Jr.) and Mick (Stoltenberg), it’s extraordinary to be able to have guys that you trust on and off the field as your captains. Being able just to give them their chance to lead so I can sit back and enjoy it more like just another guy, it takes a little bit off your shoulders, so I know the defense is led by two great guys and offensively, not to toot our own horn, but I feel good about us too.”

On Luke’s leadership qualities:
“His persistence to do the right thing. His realism, knowing that when things are going the right way to let’s keep going, let’s keep punching it. When things are going the wrong way, let’s not fairytale ourselves, let’s actually figure out our problems and be able to solve them. Those kind of characteristics that Giff has about him, I feel like they really allow him to be a such good leader. I’m not going to say that he won’t help out the guys when they need him or anything like that, but I just like those two characteristics of Giff. Real good guy.”

On how the offensive line has grown:
“All of us were able to play last year, which gives you that experience. That feel when you get out on the field, so I know we’ve all grown that way. I feel like everybody is just more aware of each other on the field. Again, that comes from experience, that comes from being able to take snaps and things like that. Growth that you get playing alongside of each other, and we’ve been playing with each other for a long time. Definitely Cole (Conrad), (Tanner) Farmer and I are feeling like old people in the middle, but with that experience I feel like it’s made us better football players in general. I don't want to sit here and talk about pieces of the game, just in general, we’re better than what we were.”

On captains keeping the guys focused after the cancelled game:
“As a captain you have to rally the guys when you don’t get that time to shine. I feel like we’ve done that, we had a good practice this morning, really excited about what we all accomplish, and our eyes are all forward for Colorado. If it works out that we do get to play the Zips or whoever we get to play in the future then that’d be great, but we are definitely bought into playing Colorado and we can’t wait to be on the field and hopefully get past the kickoff.”

On his feelings following the cancellation of the Akron game:
“It happened on Saturday, I get to be mad on Sunday and I have to be ready on Monday.”

On playing Colorado in their first game:
“I feel like they are a really good opponent. I’m not going to take anything away from them, but if we come at them the same way, with the same intensity and understanding of the game then I feel great about us. We have a really good team, our offense has been flying around. Unfortunately, we didn't get to show it on Saturday, but the offense has been flying around, the defense has been having to keep up with the way that we run our tempo. I feel like it’s set them up to be fine against whatever another team has. So being able to go against a Power Five team, I feel like it’s just going to make it that much more fun. I saw how well Colorado played, I feel like the rest of the guys did as well. I think that’s just little things that make you want to play them even more. When a team shows themselves as a really good opponent I feel like that just makes it more fun to be able to go against them. So, I can’t wait until Saturday comes, I got Tuesday, Wednesday and the rest of those to get ready, but once Saturday does finally get here, and the rain stays away, we’ll be really ready for them. Knock on wood, every single person here.”
