On the start of the season
"I'm just ready. I'm ready to play. We've been out here working against each other and sharpening each other. It's surreal right now. I'm ready."
On his physical shape
"I'm faster. I'm quicker, explosive and I know what I can do. I know I can bend. I know I can move, all the edges. Knowing how your body works and being comfortable and knowing the science behind it is great. I know what my body can do. I just think Coach [Zach] Duval did a great job."
On Head Coach Scott Frost
"He shows that you've got to have emotion behind it. You have to care about it. It's more than football. It's an emotional sport. The Blackshirts that came and talked to us, they came, they told us it's an emotional game. The told us you can't play football nonchalant. If you're a quiet guy, OK, but inside of you there has to be a fire. If you're loud outside, there has to be a fire as well. He tells us, 'Move, move. I don't want to see people out there going through the motions.' He wants to see plays with fire and passion."
On the team's confidence
"We bought in. That's the thing about new schemes and new coaches. If you deny or are reluctant to buy in, then it's...not a good thing. Everybody bought in. We have a lot of confidence in what we're doing right now. When we see it work, defensive wise, when we see us whopping the offense in practice and then the offense, when they see us and they're whooping us in practice, it's confidence. I like when we compete...it has to be competitive every time we practice."
On outside linebacker Tyrin Ferguson on top of the depth chart
"It feels great. He deserves it. He's been through a lot. He's like a brother to me. Just seeing him go through the stuff he did, mentally, emotionally and seeing him put in work and never giving up and reaping the benefits now, it's a great thing. I trust that he's going to give it his all every time he plays. He's vocal. A lot of the players are loud, likes to talk, want there to be hype. I think he loves this game. I think he loves to practice. He loves to play football."
On any team divisions
"It's not about the individual. At the end of the day, it's about the team. The coaches created the depth chart. It's not something they fabricated and they made up. They created it and we had opportunities to make our presence known. We understand that and they educated us on that and how it's graded. That should wipe out all the distractions and a divided team. That shouldn't happen. We have goals this year and that's to win. That's what we're focused on, so there's no divisions."
