Inside Linebacker Dedrick Young

On inside linebackers Coach Barrett Ruud
“I think I’ve learned a lot, just learning from Coach Ruud. He has a huge amount of experience playing here and at the NFL level. So, I just think picking his brain on the little things that I need to do better and just focusing on learning the plays a little bit more. I think I’ve learned a lot and learning technique from him and all that.”

On linebacker depth
“We have a huge amount of talent surrounding around us in the linebacker room, you know Mo (Mohamed Barry, Will (Honas), Avery (Roberts) and all them. Those guys all stand out in different ways.”

On Big Ten Championship expectations
“Me being a senior, we don’t want to have a rebuilding year. This year, our goal is to win a Big Ten Championship, nothing less than that. Every day we go out to practice, that’s what’s on our mind is winning the Big Ten Championship and having that mentality to go out to practice is what our goal is to achieve.”

On the energy of the newcomers
“I feel like everyone is hopping on board full energy and excited to get after it. Every time we go to the weight room or go to work out, everyone is ready to go.”

On winning the Big Ten Championship
“Everyone around here, that’s what the goal is. That’s what we’re trying to achieve.”

On his time at Nebraska
“Honestly, I still remember when I first got here. The time honestly flew by. I still remember arriving when I first graduated early from high school, then in a blink of an eye, I’m a senior now. It’s actually crazy how fast it flew by.”

On the pressure of being a senior
“It doesn’t give me more urgency, but from freshman to senior year you have to work as hard as you possibly can. Every time you go step on the field or go to the weight room, you have to go in there like it’s your last time going to do something.”

On freshman defensive back Cam Taylor
“Cam Taylor stood out a lot, the incoming freshman DB. He stood out a lot, doing a lot of good things.”

On freshman defensive back Cam Taylor’s strengths
“The kid is really athletic. When we have our seven on seven, he makes a lot of good plays and he just gets around to the ball. He has a nick for the ball.”

On incoming freshman
“They brought energy to the team. What we’re trying to build, they’re just adding on to the pieces. So, I feel like they’re just bringing everything we need to start building for what we need to do to get to the Big Ten Championship.”

On his eagerness for the upcoming season
“Overall, I feel better than I’ve ever felt going into this season. I’m ready to go.”
