Nebraska's Kate Smith produced an impressive showing by tying for eighth at the 88th annual Women's Trans National Golf Association Amateur Championship at the Peach Tree Golf and Country Club in Maryville, Calif., July 9-13.
Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) put together a four-round total of 287 to finish one-under par over 72 holes. The 2018-19 junior entered Friday's final round in a tie for third after a sizzling six-under-par 66 in Thursday's third round. She closed a strong tournament showing with a two-over 74 on Friday.
Kathleen Scavo from the University of Oregon took medalist honors at the major summer event with a four-round score of 280, while Stanford's Ziyi Wang (China) took second at 281. Emilee Hoffman, who finished second at the 2018 Big 12 Championships on her way to honorable-mention All-America honors, finished third at 282.
Smith was the only golfer from the Big Ten Conference to finish in the top 10.
