Lincoln, Neb. – The University of Nebraska is hosting the 2018 ITA Summer Circuit this weekend at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. Play starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 13. Admission is free for the entire event.
Two rounds of singles and doubles play kick off tournament action at the Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday, with two more rounds of singles and doubles to be played on Sunday, including doubles finals. Finals matches for singles competition will take place Monday morning.
The ITA Summer Circuit was created to provide college players the opportunity to compete in organized events year-round. Although the primary purpose of the circuit is to provide incoming freshman and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events are categorized as “open”; therefore, anyone (including high level juniors and adults) is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member. The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of 49 events over six consecutive weekends, beginning in mid-June and continuing through the last weekend in July.
Several Husker men and women will compete in this weekend's event. On the women’s side, rising juniors M'Balia Bangoura, Hayley Haakenstad, Claire Reifeis and Emma Worley will compete. Incoming freshman Jessica Aragon will also participate in the action. Bangoura and Worley will play first-round matches at 9 a.m. Saturday, while Aragon, Haakenstad and Reifeis earned first-round byes and will begin competition with second-round matches on Saturday at 1 p.m. Reifeis is the No. 1 seed in the women's singles draw while Haakenstad is the No. 5 seed, Aragon is the No. 6 seed, Bangoura is the No. 7 seed and Worley is unranked.
On the men's side, senior Jon Meyer and freshman William Gleason will compete. Meyer's first-round match is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday while Gleason's first-round match is at 10:15 a.m. Gleason is the No. 2 seed while Meyer is unranked.
“It’s a great honor to be hosting this event,” Nebraska women's tennis associate head coach said. “With our amazing facilities and the city of Lincoln, we have an opportunity to have our players compete against other top college and junior players in the country. We have a great turnout of players, and we are expecting a high level of tennis all weekend.”
Results and updated draws will be posted upon completion of tennis action each day. Fans and athletes who wish to stay up to date can watch for information on Huskers.com or by checking the links below.
