Former Nebraska track and field student-athlete Kaiwan Culmer earned the triple jump silver medal at the 2018 Bahamas Senior National Championships on Friday night at the Bahamas National Stadium in Nassau.
Culmer set a new lifetime best in the triple jump with a mark of 54-2 1/2 (16.52m), nine centimeters better than his previous best as a Husker. He trailed only Latario Collie, who jumped 54-2 3/4 (16.53m). Culmer's finish qualifies him to represent the Bahamas national team at the NACAC Senior Championships in Toronto, Canada from August 10-12.
Culmer was a three-time Big Ten triple jump champion at Nebraska and a four-time All-American. He finished ninth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships two weeks ago.
