Mercurio Named Second-Team Academic All-American

Nebraska track and field student-athlete Angela Mercurio was named a CoSIDA second-team Academic All-American on Thursday, as the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America teams were announced for men's and women's Division I track and field/cross country.

Mercurio is Nebraska's nation-leading 333rd Academic All-American for all sports and becomes Nebraska track and field's 59th Academic All-American. She is the first Husker female track and field athlete to receive the honor since 2014.

A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Mercurio carries a 3.99 GPA majoring in biochemistry and women's and gender studies. She was a second-team All-American in the triple jump at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, and earned runner-up honors in the event at this season's Big Ten Indoor Championships.

Mercurio, who has one season of indoor eligibility remaining, is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time academic All-Big Ten selection, as well as a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member.
