Women's Golf Letterwinners Win 2018 N Club Golf Tournament

For the past three years, letterwinners look forward to participating in the N Club’s annual golf tournament, typically held the Friday before the spring game. This year was no different. The tournament, held at Quarry Oaks Golf Course outside of Ashland, sold out more than one month before 36 teams and close to 150 letterwinners and friends teed off on Friday, April 20th.

“It’s always fun to golf in this tournament along with friend and teammates,” said Sam Sharpe, three-time golf tournament participant and baseball letterwinner (1971 – 1974). “Each year, the tournament grows along with the opportunity to reconnect with some of Nebraska’s finest letterwinners and people.”

Outside of golfing, letterwinners truly look forward to connecting with former teammates and reliving and sharing memories that get better with time.

“I look forward to this day every year when I get to see and share some great memories with old teammates,” said Curt Tomasevicz, football letterwinner (2003). “In four short years as a Husker, we went through a lot together and that type of connection will always be special for all of us. It’s fun to connect again with my teammates as well as those from older and younger generations.”

There was no shortage of fun, as can be seen in scrolling through the 2018 N Club Golf Tournament photo gallery. While a majority of photos included team shots, one team took the “group photo” to the next level, posing as linemen for an extra photo. The Nebraska “N” in the distance behind them was a roll-over favorite from last year’s tournament, serving as an extra prize hole.

A 13-under scorecard tiebreaker placed last year’s third place team and only female team in the winner’s seat, comprised of women’s golf letterwinners Katie Jorgensen (2011 – 2012), Kayla Barnes Knopik (2009 – 2012), Mary Kate Bird (2008 – 2011) and Amy Mahlberg. Aaron Graham, football letterwinner (1992 – 1995) helped lead his team, comprised of Ryan Schroeter, Tyler Van Meetersen, and Molly McClure, to second place. Finally, members of last year’s first place team, came in third, shooting 12-under, including football letterwinners Matt Hoskinson (1995 – 1997) and Bill Lafluer (1995 – 1998) and friends Corey Simpson and Trey Mitty.  

“I would recommend this tournament to any letterwinner who can attend; it’s so much fun with great people, tee gifts, prizes, and camaraderie,” said Katie Jorgensen. “It also helps if you can win! I know we all look forward to participating in this tournament each year and are already looking forward to next spring.”
