ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Nebraska women's gymnastics qualified for its 12th Super Six Finals on Friday, finishing third and scoring 197.0125 at the National Semifinals at Chaifetz Arena.

Semifinal Wrap Up

No. 7 Nebraska is one of three teams which qualified to Super Six out of Semifinal I, alongside No. 2 LSU and No. 3 UCLA. UCLA finished first in Semifinal I with a final team score of 197.5625, while LSU finished second with a final team score of 197.475. Nebraska was the third qualifying team with a final team score of 197.0125.  Oklahoma, Florida, and Utah advanced to Super Six out of Semifinal II.

Oklahoma will take the highest score into Super Six, hitting a 198.050 at the evening session of the semifinals. Florida posted 197.5875 while Utah hit a 197.1375 to qualify for Super Six.

Super Six Finals

Qualifying for Super Six takes care of unfinished business for Nebraska, who finished seventh in the nation last year. Nebraska finished fourth at their semifinal and posted a higher score than one qualifying team from the other semifinal in 2017. Nebraska’s best finish at the Super Six Finals is fourth. Nebraska’s 197.0125 is the fourth-best score all-time Nebraska has posted at the Semifinals, and the third best score all-time in a Super Six qualifying year. No current Nebraska gymnast has ever competed in the Super Six Finals.

Nebraska will begin the meet on bars, before rotating to beam, bye, floor, vault and then end on a bye.  Florida will begin on vault, LSU will begin on the bye before bars, Oklahoma will begin on beam, UCLA will begin on the bye before floor, and Utah will begin on floor. Each team will then rotate through the order.

Of all 12 teams that competed at the semifinals, Nebraska tied for the second-best beam performance of the day. Nebraska's solid beam team show-off put Nebraska in the perfect position to claim the final qualifying position out of Semifinal I.

All-American Action
Nebraska sophomore Taylor Houchin's vault tied for first in Semifinal I, and tied for sixth overall. Houchin and three other Huskers earned eight All-American honors on the day. First team All-America is awarded to the top four placements in each event from each session, while places fifth through eighth garner second-team All-America honors. Houchin earned first-team All-America honors on vault, and second team honors on balance beam when she finished tied fifth with a 9.8875.

The End of an Era

The NCAA has changed the format of the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships going forward, and 2018 will be the last year of the Super Six Finals. In the future, there will be four regional sites, with eight teams advancing out of the regional to the semifinals and then a Final Four participating in the finals.
