No. 29 Huskers Open B1G Slate at Ohio State

Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 29 Nebraska women’s tennis team (11-2) hits the road again on Wednesday, March 7, when the Huskers visit the No. 19 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio. This marks the first of Nebraska’s 11 scheduled Big Ten Conference matches. The dual is scheduled to begin at Noon (Central).

The Buckeyes will host the Huskers with a 5-3 record on the season after facing a handful of tough teams. Previously ranked No. 11 nationally, Ohio State has suffered recent losses to Baylor (4-1) and then-No. 18 Texas (4-0).

The Huskers will be tested against a ranked Ohio State roster. The 19th-ranked Buckeyes are the second-highest ranked team Nebraska has faced this season. The Huskers' only other two matchups against ranked opponents were a loss at No. 3 Vanderbilt on Jan. 26 and a 4-2 win at No. 35 Kansas State on Feb. 23. Individually, Ohio State boasts three ranked singles players in No. 123 Anna Sanford, No. 103 Olivia Sneed and No. 61 Shiori Fukuda. In Big Ten doubles competition, Nebraska could see a combination of ranked players. Ohio State’s ranked duos include No. 73 Sanford and Sneed, No. 32 Sanford and Fukuda or No. 55 Fukuda and Maria Tyrina. Ohio State leads the all-time series against Nebraska, 6-5.

In last season’s dual with the Buckeyes, the Big Red welcomed No. 3 Ohio State to Lincoln on April 8 for Senior Day. The Huskers suffered a 7- 0 sweep, before hitting the road to close out conference competition.

The nationally-ranked Huskers stayed put at No. 29 for the second straight week following a pair of unranked foes UMKC and Illinois State last weekend. The Big Red swept both opponents by identical 4-0 scores.
