PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Nebraska men's golf team is set to head to their first invitational following the Big Ten Match Play Championships at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The event will kick off Friday, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m. CT and conclude Sunday, Feb. 16.
The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., a par-72, 7,322-yard course will play host to the tournament. The Huskers will look to rally off their fourth round win over Michigan in Big Ten Match Play, 3.5-2.5.
Junior captains Jace Guthmiller and Jackson Wendling will be in the No. 1 and 2 spots of the NU lineup, respectively. Guthmiller went 1-2-1 and Wendling finished 1-3-0 at last weekend's Big Ten Match Play Championships. Guthmiller carries in a season stroke average of 72.56 and Wendling averages 73.37.
Sophomore Tanner Owen will occupy the No. 3 slot in the lineup at the event. Owen finished at the Big Ten Match Play Championships with a 3-1-0 record and a season stroke average of 75.66.
Junior Sean Song will represent the Huskers at No. 4 in the lineup. Song went 1-1-1 at the Big Ten Match Play Championships and averages 77.16 on the season.
Junior Dylan McCabe rounds out the Big Red lineup at No. 5. McCabe completed the Big Ten Match Play Championships with a perfect 3-0-0 record and averages 74.85.
Sophomore Cameron Jones will also be traveling with the team and competing as an individual. He went 1-3-0 at the Big Ten Match Play Championships and averages 75.4 on the season.
The stacked field includes 23 teams. Those represented at the invitational will include Texas Tech, UCLA, UC Fullerton, Southern Utah, Southern Illinois, Kansas, Tennessee, Boise State, TCU, Denver, South Dakota State, Idaho, California, SFA, Arkansas-Little Rock, LMU, UC Riverside, Colorado, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Wichita State, UT-Arlington and Oklahoma State.
