The No. 10 Nebraska rifle team will travel to Murray, Ky. this weekend to compete in the NCAA Qualifiers against Murray State. Action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday. The Huskers will attempt to set a school record by earning a spot at the NCAA Championships for the sixth consecutive year.
Last Time Out
NU is coming off of a bye week that was preceded by a victory over Akron on Senior Day. The Huskers shot well on their home range, defeating the Zips 4,661-4,640. Freshman Emily Cheramie led the team in smallbore with a mark of 584. Senior Dacotah Faught brought in 595 to pace NU in air rifle.
Scouting Murray State
The fourth-ranked Racers hold an overall record of 28-5 this season. Nebraska has tallied an overall record of 11-11 against Murray State dating back to 2001. The Huskers will look to change the trend after falling short the last six meetings. MSU is led by sophomore Barbara Schlapfer and junior Ivan Roe. The pair consistently battles to lead the team in both disciplines, landing in the 590 and above range on multiple occasions. The team’s season-high aggregate score is 4,720.
Huskers Ranked No. 10
Nebraska remains in the top ten for the eighth consecutive week this season. West Virginia, TCU and Kentucky took the three highest spots, with Murray State and Alaska-Fairbanks rounding out the top five.
NCAA Qualifying Details
Qualifying scores are composed of two parts: the qualifying match score and the average of the top three regular-season scores at different locations. The two parts are added together to get the final qualifying score. The top eight teams based on this system will qualify for the 2018 NCAA Championships in Charleston, S.C., on March 9-10. Qualifying teams will be announced on the NCAA Rifle Selection Show at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
