PALM COAST, Fla. - The Huskers finished the Big Ten Match Play Championship on an optimistic note. Following a third round loss to Wisconsin (3.5-2.5), the Huskers fought back and took home a fourth round finale win over Michigan, 3.5-2.5. Purdue and Michigan State were crowned Big Ten co-champions after tying for first place.
In the finale, Nebraska went toe-to-toe with Michigan and knocked off the Wolverines for its first win of the B1G Match Play Championship. Jackson Wendling took home his first win in conference match play over Nick Carlson, 1UP. Tanner Owen defeated Brent Ito 5&4 and Dylan McCabe beat Connor Prassas 1UP. Jace Guthmiller halved with Kyle Mueller and Sean Song fell to Charlie Pilon, 4&3.
Owen and McCabe each secured wins for the Huskers today over the Badgers. Owen defeated Nick Robinson 2&1 and McCabe beat Sam Anderson 3&2. Junior captains Jace Guthmiller and Jackson Wendling each fell to Jordan Hahn (2UP) and Griffin Barela (2&1), respectively. Cameron Jones lost 2UP to Pete Kuhl and Sean Song was all squared through nine with Eddie Wajda.
Nebraska placed 13th overall in the conference at the conclusion of the tournament, but will look to carry the momentum from their finale win into the spring season. The Husker squad will be heading home for a brief break before departing west for Palm Desert, Calif. to compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
