Huskers Fall to Northwestern, Illinois in B1G Match Play

PALM COAST, Fla. - The Nebraska men's golf team competed on Friday for the first time since last fall. After falling to No. 2 seeded Northwestern 4-2-0 in the first round, the Huskers lost to No. 1 Illinois in head-to-head play after tying 3-3-0 but losing the tiebreaker in the afternoon round. Nebraska goes into the second day of the tournament at No. 6 in the West division.

Purdue (2-0, 9.5) is the current leader of the West division, followed by Minnesota (2-0, 7.5), Wisconsin (2-0, 7), Northwestern (1-1, 6.5), Illinois (1-1, 5.5), Nebraska (0-2, 5) and Iowa (0-2, 3.5).

In the first round against Northwestern, Tanner Owen and Dylan McCabe raked in the Huskers' only two wins, both by a score of 2&1. Jace Guthmiller fell 4&2, Jackson Wendling lost 5&4, Cameron Jones was defeated 3&1 and Daniel Pearson lost 6&4.

Jace Guthmiller (4&2), Cameron Jones (2UP) and Sean Song (4&3) each took care of business in the second round against Illinois and took home wins before the Huskers fell to the Illini in a tiebreaker after a 3-3-0 split.

The Huskers will compete in round three against No. 3 Wisconsin on Saturday before heading home.
