Percy Breaks Weight Throw School Record

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Nebraska track and field senior thrower Nick Percy broke the school record in the weight throw to win the event at the Air Force Invitational on Friday.

Percy, a Ventnor, England native, recorded a personal-best mark of 68-10 3/4 (21.00m), which topped the old school record of 68-10 1/2 (20.99m) set by Joe Erdkamp in 1999. Percy now holds both the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw school records. 

Isaiah Griffith was the winner of the long jump with a mark of 24-6 1/4 (7.47m). Mike Mitchell was third with a PR of 24-1 (7.34m). 

Chris Daniels and Edward Jeans were the second and third finishers in the weight throw behind Percy. Daniels threw 61-9 1/2 (18.83m), while Jeans set a personal best of 58-8 1/2 (17.89m). 

Shylia Riley took third in the long jump after a personal-best 19-7 (5.97m). 

A handful of qualifying races took place as well on Friday. Luke Siedhoff ran 7.92 in the 60-meter hurdles, a new personal best and the second-fastest qualifying time. Jasmine Barge also had the second-fastest 60-meter hurdles prelims time of 8.45. Kierra Griggs (54.89) and Ashleigh Carr (56.87) led the field in the 400 meters, while Sam Bransby led the men's side in 48.61. Andy Neal had the fastest 200-meters time among collegians at 21.34. Mitchell led four Husker qualifiers in the 60 meters with a time of 6.87. Lakayla Harris advanced in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.72. 

Saturday's action begins with field events at 12:30 p.m. (CT). Running events start at 2 p.m.
