Huskers Prepare for Bluejays

Lincoln -- The Nebraska men's tennis team faces the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. Creighton comes to Lincoln with a 0-2 record with losses to Bryant and Oklahoma. The Big Red, coming off of two wins against South Dakota State, will look to continue momentum against the in-state rival. 

In their fall season, Creighton competed in the Drake Invitational and their own invitational where they competed against South Dakota State, Omaha, Drake, and North Dakota. 

Looking back at last weekend's matches against South Dakota State, it was a complete sweep. Junior Toby Boyer and senior Linus Erhart competed in the No. 1 position and defeated SDSU's Henrique Stemmer and Aiden DeBoer 6-2. Junior Micah Klousia and sophomore Chris Dean swept Emmerson Styles and Chuck Tang 6-0. Finally, the freshmen duo of Grattan-Smith and Nortey defeated Elliot Ward and Marco Paulo Castro 6-0. 

In singles, Erhart swept Stemmer in the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-0. Boyer defeated Styles 6-0, 6-1. Grattan-Smith bested Carlos Martinez in the No. 6 position 6-3, 6-4. Klousia took on Alex Reinke and won 6-0, 6-1. Chris Dean won against Chuck Tang in the No. 5 spot 6-1,6-0. Lastly, Nortey won in a second set tie breaker to cap off a seven-win day for the Huskers against Marco Paulo Castro 6-4, 7-6

In the doubles play of the second match against South Dakota State the duo of Erhart and Boyer stayed perfect and defeated Henrique Stemmer and Aiden DeBoer in the No. 1 spot 6-1. Grattan-Smith and Nortey came out victorious against Elliot Ward and Marco Paulo Castro 6-2. Jon Meyer and Rok Krizaj fought hard, but ultimately fell short to Emerson Styles, and Chuck Tang 6-4. In singles, Boyer in the No. 2 position defeated Stemmer 6-1, 6-0. Grattan-Smith went up against Chuck Tang and won 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 4 spot Chris Dean swept Paulo Castro 6-0, 6-0. Erhart battled and came out victorious against Styles 6-3, 6-0. Nortey defeated Alex Reinke 6-1, 6-2. Finally, Rok Krizaj was bested by Martinez in the No. 6 position 6-0, 6-4.
