Game Program Senior Feature: Erik Evans

Husker football has always been a family tradition for senior Nebraska native Erik Evans. His brother, Tyler, was a Husker from 2010-14 and is Erik’s biggest inspiration.

“I am from here so I grew up watching games, and my brother played here too, so that also was a pretty big reason [why I came here] and just seeing how much they would win when I was little also made me want to come here,” Evans said.

The 6-3, 265-pounder played for Waverly High School where he saw action as a tight end, linebacker, safety and quarterback. His versatility carried over to Nebraska as well as the walk-on defensive lineman first started his collegiate career as a linebacker.

“It was weird playing on the line at first, but I got used to it after a while,” Evans said. “I’ve had three different position coaches, but Coach [John] Parrella has been here for two years now, and he’s done a really good job of just teaching the position. In my opinion, he’s one of the better d-line coaches out there. He’s just really helped me out a lot.”

Looking back, Evans has enjoyed his years at NU both athletically and academically. After graduation, the marketing major looks to work in sales.

“It’s been a blast,” Evans said. “They do a really good job helping you out with school and stuff and making sure your schedule is right and making sure you have tutors if you need them. I can’t complain really. I’ve had a really good time here. They’ve done a really good job of just pushing me in the right direction of where I want to go by keeping me motivated. They’ve just done an overall good job of just keeping on top of it all.”
