Lincoln- Coach Pablo Morales and the Nebraska swim and dive team kicked off their 2017-18 season with the annual Scarlet and Cream Intrasquad meet on Friday afternoon.
The Cream team took the first victory of the meet in the 200-yard medley with Morgan McCafferty, Tori Beeler, Madison Coughlen and Kaylyn Flatt in the lane.
Flatt knotched another first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle for the Cream. Rachel Powers came in second and Savannah Savitt came in third, both scoring for the Scarlet.
In 200-yard individual medley, Jordan Ehly secured the Scarlet team's first victory. She was followed by sophomore Tori Beeler for second place (Cream) and Anna McDonald for third (Scarlet).
Lindsay Helferich finished first in the 50-yard free, while freshman Jessica Pentlarge finished second. Allie Worrall rounded out the top three.
All-American Abi Knapton took first place in the three-meter dive for the Cream, followed by freshman Grace Tiernon for second for the Scarlet. Katrina Voge took third place for the Cream.
The one meter dive results followed the same order with Knapton, Tiernon and Voge placing first, second and third.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Dana Posthuma and Izzie Murray took first and second for the Scarlet, respectively. Freshman Madison Coughlen got on the board for a third place win for the Cream.
Pentlarge secured a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle for the Cream, followed by Allie Worrall for second and Lindsay Helferich for third.
In the 400-yard freestyle, Flatt found her third first-place finish of the day for the Cream team. Freshmen Autumn Haebig and Rachel Powers followed for the Scarlet.
Freshman Autumn Haebig took first place in the 100-yard backstroke for the Scarlet. McCafferty and Carla Gonzalez-Garcia came in second and third respectively for the Cream.
In the 100-yard breastroke, Ehly also found her second first place finish of the meet for the Scarlet. Tori Beeler came in second and Gwen Worlton followed for third, both scoring for the Cream.
The Scarlet team (Haebig, Helferich, Savitt, Stalheim) took the 200-yard freestyle relay to end the meet. They were followed by Cream (Worrall, Pentlarge, Marvin, Sickle), and Scarlet (Baratta, Murray, Kopas, Powers).
The meet was a tie with final score of 116-116.
The Big Red will be back in the pool on October 13th at 4 p.m. in Cedar Falls as they take on Northern Iowa. This season's home opener is set for Saturday, October 21st when the Huskers host Iowa State at noon.
