The No. 2-ranked Nebraska bowling team opened the 2017-18 season with a 4-1 record and a pinfall of 5,010 in five five-game Baker matches, and sit first overall after the first day of the Brunswick Bearcat Open in Fairview Heights, Ill.
The Huskers began the day with a victory over No. 21 Saint Francis-Brooklyn by a score of 912-904. This victory was followed another over North Central College, 1109-690. Their only loss of the day was at the hands of No. 10 Central Missouri, 944-920.
Nebraska quickly bounced back, winning their two remaining matches of the day. The Huskers took down No. 24 Youngstown State, 1019-847, and, in their final match of the day, Lincoln Memorial, 1050-927.
The Huskers will continue play at the Brunswick Bearcat Open on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (CT) with five traditional matches. They will take on Valparaiso in their first match of the day, followed by No. 18 North Carolina A&T. No. 5 Sam Houston State is next on the schedule with No.7 Maryland Eastern Shore and No. 4 Vanderbilt to wrap up the day. Friday and Saturday’s combined results will determine the seeding for Sunday’s bracket-play championship tournament, in which each team will play three rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
