Drew Brown, Senior, Kicker
On the blocked field goal before halftime
“The block came from the C gap I’m pretty sure, and I didn’t get the ball high enough. It was completely my fault. The guys up front, they did their job and I just need to get the ball a little bit higher.”

On facing adversity and going about this week as a senior leader
“It helps being able to reflect from past experiences. And whenever you go through something like this where you have not the start that you obviously want, it is those times that you can reflect on to push you through and just remember all the hard work that you’ve put in, not only to the season, but your entire career. We have lost games in the past and we have been able to bounce back pretty well and we are looking to do that this week.”

On what gives him optimism about this team
“We have worked our butts off this entire offseason. I mean some things may not go your way in games but it’s all about how you finish the season and I think that this is a locker room full of a lot of guys who have been through a lot since we’ve been here, especially the older guys. We all trust each other. We’re all leaning on each other to do each other’s job and once we start playing as a complete team I think we are going to put it all together. We still have some kinks to figure out but I think now, going into the conference season, we are going to figure those things out and we are going to take a step forward.”

On heading into conference play
“It’s a good thing for us to get a fresh start. We played well. We did great things in our first three games. We’ve done some things that we can fix and until we do that we’ve got to keep working hard. Like you said, it is a new season. We’ve got our goal in mind and we are still able to achieve that and if we take it game by game, I think we are able to achieve that goal we set for ourselves.”

On what he’s seen in practices that may not have translated into games
“Well, practices are just so much different than games because in games you are facing a different team. Our scout teams, they do a good job giving us the best look we can, and we couldn’t do what we do without them. But once the game comes around they are probably going to give you something that you didn’t prepare for or you are going to have to run a play that you didn’t practice all week, but it shows up in a game. And it’s all about reacting to what the other team gives you offensively, defensively and special teams-wise. Every game isn’t scripted, obviously. So you have got to be able to react to things that you might not expect to hit you.”
