The Nebraska women’s tennis team initiates its fall season this Friday, as it travels to the Midland Racquet Club Invitational in Texas.
The Huskers open the weekend on the Racquet Club courts with doubles action on Friday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m. Nebraska will take eight members of its 12-person roster for the three brackets of play this weekend.
Friday will start with doubles play followed by two rounds of singles.
Starting off doubles play will be junior Paula Del Cueto Castillo and senior transfer Brianna Lashway as they go up against Jordan Henry and Ileana Mocciola of Abilene Christian University. Castillo will later face Alexandra Shchipakina from the University of Alabama Birmingham in the first round of singles play, as Lashway goes head and head with Agne Cepelyte from the University of Akansas.
Junior transfer Marina Cozac will also get playing time with the Huskers as she partners up with sophomore M’Balia Bangoura in doubles play against Alex Jones and Rishona Lewis of Texas State University. Bangoura faces Jordan Henry of ABU and Cozac goes up against Megan Bertrands of UAB in singles play.
Also pairing up for doubles play will be junior Vasanti Shinde and sophomore Claire Reifeis, along with a sophomore duo of Emma Worley and Jeannie Lozowski. Both duos will start with byes in the first round of doubles play, and all four players will also be competing in the two draws of single play.
