Nebraska Hosts ITA Summer Circuit Event This Weekend

Lincoln, Neb. – The University of Nebraska will host an ITA Summer Circuit event this weekend at the Sid and Dillon Tennis Center. Action begins on Saturday, July 8, at 9 a.m., and admission is free for the entire event.

Two rounds of singles and doubles play kick off tournament action at the Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday, with two more rounds of singles and doubles to be played on Sunday, including doubles finals. Finals matches for singles competition will take place Monday morning.

The ITA Summer Circuit is open to a wide range of athletes from around the country. Competitors include incoming college freshmen, current collegiate student-athletes, high level juniors and adults. The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of 52 events over six consecutive weekends, beginning the last weekend in June and continuing through the last weekend in July.

Several Husker men and women will compete in the event. On the women's side, senior Katerina Matysova, junior Marina Cozac and sophomores Hayley Haakenstad, Jeannie Lozowski, Claire Reifeis and Emma Worley will all compete this weekend. Cozac, Haakenstad, Lozowski and Worley all play first-round matches at 9 a.m. Saturday, while Matysova and Reifeis earned first-round byes and will begin competition with second-round matches on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Matysova is the No. 2 seed in the women's singles draw, while Reifeis is the No. 3 seed, Haakenstad is the No. 10 seed, Lozowski is the No. 11 seed and Cozac is the No. 13 seed.

On the men's side, junior Jon Meyer and sophomore Dylan Bednarcyk will both compete at the Dillon Tennis Center this weekend. Meyer will compete in first-round action on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., while Bednarcyck, who earned the No. 3 seed in the men's single draw, received a first-round bye and will open his tournament with a second-round match at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

“It’s a great honor to be hosting this event,” Nebraska women's tennis associate head coach said. “With our amazing facilities and the city of Lincoln, we have an opportunity to have our players compete against other top college and junior players in the country. We have a great turnout of players, and we are expecting a high level of tennis all weekend.”
